Scene 1: The Sidewalk Outside Horton Grand Theater
It’s the intermission of Sister Act and, the line being unusually longer for the men’s room than for the women’s, Tony has gone outside to vape. Michael joins him.
Tony: So, what’d you think?
Michael: I really like it. What do you think?
Tony: I like it, but it took me a while to warm up to it.
Michael: I felt the same way the first time I saw it.
Tony: How many times have you seen it?
Michael: This is the 4th production I’ve seen. (Tony rolls his eyes and adjusts to stand downwind of Michael so as not to blow smoke in his face.) When did you finally warm up to it?
Tony: I started appreciating the music during Mother Superior’s fist song (“Here Within These Walls”) but I think the first time I really got into it was the guys’ song (“When I Find My Baby”). The way the mob guys act s the backup singers was really well done. I don’t know why it took me so long. It wasn’t the performers – they were great – there was just something about the opening that felt a little off. I think it was mostly about needing time to used to the idea that that it wasn’t gonna be Whoopi Goldberg.
Michael: Yeah, I told you it’s defiantly not like the movie. I think if you go in expecting that you’re going to be disappointed.
Tony: The plot’s the same, though.
Michael: Yeah but the music is completely different. I think that’s why I hated the touring production the first time I saw it.
Tony: Hated it so much you saw it two more times?
Michael: Yup. (Tony chuckles as Micael continues without missing a beat). I was expecting the music from the movie. I really like this production, though. The energy is great and I love the choreography. And now that I know what to expect I love the music – the disco – it reminds me of a Donna Summer anthem! Makes you want to go dancing!
Tony: I’m enjoying it. Excited see Act 2.
Michael: Me too.
Tony: Ok. I’m gonna get in lone for the men’s room. I’ll see you inside.
Michael: Okie dokie.

Scene 2: The Street Outside the Horton Grand Theater
The show is over. Michael begins to speak immediately upon exiting the theater.
Michael: How can anyone not feel good after that!
Tony: I know!
Michael: I think I may want to come see it again! The lyrics are really clever and I loved the choreography and the music. It felt like disco meets Dreamgirls!
Tony: I thought it was well done… especially the second act. I know it sounds silly, but I even got a little misty-eyed when Mother Superior steps in front of Dolores to protect her. The whole thing reminded me of the nuns who taught me as a kid. I admired them. (He takes out his phone.). Let’s walk up here a little. It’ll be easier to get the Lyft.
Michael: Ok. Yeah, the show itself has a kind of kitschiness to it, but I liked that.
Tony: I still missed the “Hail Holy Queen”, though. I wonder why they changed that?
Michael: Maybe they couldn’t get the rights to it. It is all new music; none of the music from the movie is in the show.
Tony: I know. Still…. I did like the music, though – I just missed that one song.
Michael: Well, I may see it again.
Tony: Yeah, I’d see it again. (Looking at his phone) There’s the car.
Their Lyft arrives and they get in.
